OUR NEUROSOMATIC THERAPISTS

I
am a neurosomatic therapist, specialising in helping
long-term sufferers of CFS/ME and Fibromyalgia to make a full recovery
and return to a healthy, active life. I successfully recovered from
CFS/ME in 2004 after 25 years of illness, using a related mind-body approach. Our use of the term neurosomatic has no connections whatsoever with the US massage treatment that has adopted a similar term - our approach is a form of therapy based on talking, self-awareness and taking positive action. This is why we call it Proactive Neurosomatic Therapy. I am committed and passionate about understanding the neurobiological processes that trigger these debilitating chronic disorders and, perhaps more importantly, the neurobiological processes that also make recovery possible.
Two of the greatest problems for people with CFS/ME and fibromyalgia are
•
the lack of a sound, scientifically based explanation for their illness and
•
the absence of simple, effective, scientifically-based treatment.
Given my many years of illness, my many years of research into the neurobiology of these illnesses, my scientific background, and my experience working as a neurosomatic therapist, I feel confident that we can now rectify these two great problems for people with these disorders. The latest and most exciting neurobiological breakthroughs now provide us with
•
a sound and comprehensive explanation for these illnesses, and
•
a new understanding that allows us at last to offer a sound, effective and energy-enhancing approach to full and permanent recovery from chronic neurosomatic illnesses like CFS/ME and fibromyalgia.
I am not a medical doctor, but have undertaken training in mind-body therapy, counselling
skills, and CBT - although I do NOT advocate CBT for these illnesses! I have been working in private practice with clients with ME/CFS and Fibromyalgia
since 2009.
In 2017, I and my colleague Fiona Adamson, published a comprehensive text exploring multiple sources of research into CFS/ME. From this we realised that few researchers understand the true roots of these illnesses because they are trapped in their own small area of expertise, with little awareness orunderstanding of what is a highly complex and multi-dimensional illness. We are currently preparing Recovery
Workbooks - one book for people with Fibromyalgia and a second volume for people with CFS/ME. The Fibromyalgia Recovery Workbook will be available in summer 2024.
• Volume 1 on Chronic Neurosomatic Illness was published in November 2015
(see below; available from Amazon)
• Volumes 2 and 3, the Recovery Workbooks, are due for publication in 2024 and 2025.
If
you would like to discuss any of the elements of our Neurosomatic
Treatment for CFS/ME and Fibromyalgia, do contact me
via email. We are always happy to discuss our approach and answer any questions you may have about the
treatment.

I have over 30 years' experience as a psychotherapist, supervisor, and coach,
working with people from all walks of life who wish to live well,
productive and happy lives.
My
particular focus has been working with people in transition from one
stage of life to another, those simply seeking a place to talk through
to a new understanding of themselves and where they are going in life,
and people who feel trapped by illness.
My
clients find me a calm and accepting person to talk to, a person who
takes them seriously, and I work with humour when appropriate. In
my long experience of working with people I have found that when we
are willing to explore who we really are, what we really value, and
what we really want in life for ourselves and those we love, then
we can achieve well-being.
I
have had many years of training in a variety of therapeutic approaches,
including the study of the relationship between the mind and the body.
I have learned a great deal, including from my own life challenges,
all of which has informed how I work with people. These studies and
experiences have led me, with Judith Maizels, to develop Neurosomatic Therapy, inspired
by the very latest research into psychobiology, neuro-immunology,
and other successful mind-body approaches to well-being.
Until
I retired from full-time work in 2003, I was an accredited and
registered psychotherapist. I have been coaching since 1991 and am
now an accredited executive coach supervisor, coach, mentor, and neurosomatic therapist
working part-time.
I
am also licensed to provide HeartMath® Coaching Programmes which offer a range of effective stress management
and well-being tools. Click here for
more information.
When
you are ready to take some challenging and possibly bold steps to
get well again, then I am ready to support and encourage you to find
the strength and skills you need to do so. You will find in Neurosomatic Therapy an
approach to your symptoms that is truly liberating and will change
your life for the better.
